Gold Coast Horse Races

The Gold Coast Horse Races and Racing events are held at the Gold Coast Turf Club which is conveniently located only five minutes from Surfers Paradise Beach. The present day Gold Coast Turf Club began over sixty years ago in 1946 as the Southport and District Amateur Race Club and has since grown into a large and diverse complex servicing the local horse racing fraternity as well as hosting many special events throughout the year including the very popular family carnival days every Saturday.

Regular Saturday events began in 1971with the Newmarket-Gold Coast Cup which was a three day grass track carnival. In 1974 the club introduced the Prime Minister’s Cup which began with a prize of $30,000 and has since grown to return total race day prizes over $1,000,000. In total the club now holds approximately 60 race meetingseach season including several major events such as January’s Magic Millions Carnival, the Melbourne Cup Race day, Prime Minister’s Cup Carnival, Easter Carnival, Gold Coast Stakes Race day andGold Coast City Cup Race day.

The Gold Coast Turf Club also caters for specific functions both on race days and for special occasions. Venues include the Winners Circle, Dome, Paradise Room, Southern Lawn Marquee, Board Roomand the Magic Millions Bar. There are seemingly countless on course bars, restaurants, cafes and bistros.

With the great weather that shines over the Gold Coast the Gold Coast Turf Club holds race days every Saturday and mid week throughout the year. During race days the gates open at 10:00am with special times for featured events.
